Whips

Here I’ll tell the sad story of the “Whips” in Congress, and how it relates to the partisan divide we see today.

The Whips go back to 1897 for the GOP and 1899 for the Democrats.

For now I’ll just mention that the term “whip” comes from the “whipper in” in a fox hunt, whose primary job is to help control and manage the pack of hounds during the hunt. Seems an apt metaphor.
